• I have always considered “Moly” all-purpose automotive grease to be suitable for any automotive application… Some mechanics don’t like it because it’s black and nasty to work with… “Lithium” refers to the base or “soap” from which grease is made. “Moly” (molybdenum) is an additive (anti-friction) used in grease.
• Note: The Toyota Owner's Manual and the Factory Service Manual both recommend an NLGI-2 moly grease for the double-cardan joints, and an NLGI-2 lithium-based grease for the u-joints and slip yokes. Your Toyota Owner's Manual or Factory Service Manual specifies the proper type of grease to use on each part - either a moly or lithium base.
